The article is dedicated to the outstanding scientist, teacher and doctor Yuri Mikhailovich Lopukhin – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honorary Director of the Research Institute of Physical-Chemical Medicine of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia, Rector of the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov (now the Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov). Yuri Mikhailovich is a laureate of the State Prizes of the USSR and the RSFSR, an Honored Scientist of the RSFSR, who left a significant legacy in Russian medicine and pedagogy. The article analyzes the key stages of his professional path, reveals his role in the creation of the scientific school of the Department of Topographic Anatomy and Operative Surgery, which he headed. Particular attention is paid to his approach to the education of new generations of doctors and researchers, which contributed to the strengthening of the educational and scientific potential of the university and the entire national medicine. The importance of his work for the development of medical science and pedagogy, as well as the relevance of his scientific ideas in modern conditions are emphasized.
